safeguarding standards and improving the quality of UK higher education

Student engagement

QAA wants you to be confident about the quality and standards of your education and degree. As a student your input helps shape good practice and improve the quality of UK higher education. There are lots of ways for you to get involved. We have over 50 students who join our reviewers to review institutions each year. Two of these sit on our board of directors. We also have a Student Advisory Board which meets four times a year with our CEO and other members of the QAA management team.

What students can do:

  • provide feedback on courses
  • help develop learning and teaching in subject  areas
  • participate in university or college decision-making processes
  • represent student views through a students' union or other body

If you would like to get involved Contact us for more information. You can also follow us on Twitter @QAATweets - check out our hashtag #StudentEngagement, or visit our student Facebook page.

You can also sign up to our student newsletter Engage.

The role of the Quality Assurance Agency

QAA is an independent organisation that checks how well universities and colleges meet their responsibilities, against nationally agreed expectations set out in the UK Quality Code for Higher education.

This involves:

  • reviewing universities and colleges
  • giving universities and colleges guidance on how to maintain their academic standards and improve the quality of the education they provide
  • providing nationally agreed expectations that help to define clear academic standards.
